Study Buddies is a collaboration between the Lower Dauphin School District, Communities That Care, and The Giving Tree of Hummelstown and Hershey.
High school students meet one-on-one with elementary students after school for an hour from November to the end of February. Our outcomes have shown that the Study Buddies program has helped our students feel successful in the classroom and they thoroughly enjoy getting to know their high school mentors.
Since it’s inception in 2013, we had 424 high school students participate as mentors and 466 elementary and middle school students participate.
Funding Opportunities
The cost to operate Study Buddies is approximately $500-700 (for snacks and printing of completion certificates). Funding for this program comes in part from The Giving Tree of Hummelstown and Hershey who provides a book to each student at the end of the program.
